Army Records
« on: Wednesday 14 February 07 07:46 GMT (UK) »
My ggg grandfather James Arkell was born outside Blyth, Northumberland in the 1790's and was a foot solider in the English Army in the 1830's . He served on the "home front" and died in 1855/56. He was away from home for much of his married life and thus I can't locate him in any census. How do I trace his army records and what information will they give?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Arkle

Have a look at this site and its links - it was of help when I was trying to trace an ancestor who was in the army.

Best of Luck
