Hello John, came across your message about the Cantle family. Iam a ancestor of the late Mr. John Cantle from Bitton parish and Dinah Hall from Syston Parish this couple married in 1768 at the parish of Hanham Abbots in the Bristol area, his son John Cantle jnr. married a Ann Maynard Pearce in Bristol. If I helped in anyway let me know.

Regards,
Janet ::)

Jan, many thanks for taking the trouble to reply. It is fascinating since we almost certainly have a common link since all Cantles trace back to Keynsham, but it is very hard to get at good facts in the 1700s! You can view my tree on Genesunited.com - I dont know if you are signed up to that. If not let me know and I will send you what I have found out as a word doc by separate email.

My ancestor John Cantle was a pork butcher in Redclif Bristol in the 1840s and the son of Joseph married to an Eliza Tucker.

I have an Ann Cantle b.1803 in my family tree. She was married to James Ford b.1802 and lived in Keynsham with their 9 children:
George b.1825
James b.1826
Thomas b.1831
Green b.1833
Frederick b.1835
Mary Ann b.1837
Edmund b.1839
Richmond b.1842
Ambrose b.1844
However, I don't know anything about Ann Cantle's relatives as there are so many Cantles in Keynsham in the 1841 census it is difficult to work out how they might be related. Can anyone help?
Thanks
SF

Hello Frod, thanks for your reply, I think that your Anne is later than mine she was baptised around the late 1700 and her name was Ann Maynard Pearce from Bristol she married a John Cantle from the same area. Perhaps they may connect later I will search and find the details, take care.

I am also looking into the Cantle surname.
