Enoch Grattan 1861 Look Up

Please can anyone help me to find Enoch GRATTAN & family in 1861.

In 1851 they were living at 26, George Street, Croydon.
Enoch Grattan, 34, Solicitor's Clerk, Liverpool.
Jane Grattan, 28, Wokingham.
Grafton Grattan, 6, Bromley.
Horace Grattan, 4, Croydon.
Hephzibah, 2, Croydon.

I've tried all their names & spelling variants, it's as if they disappeared off the face of the earth    Have you found them in 1871?

Hi Jane,

Thank you very much for trying, I wonder if the names have been completely mis -transcribed or wherever they are, the census pages are missing.

Funnily enough several branches of my Grattan family have vanished in 1861.

As for Enoch & co for some reason they were in St Giles, Yorksire in 1871 & then back in Croydon in 1881.

Hi Clare,
I tried putting in all their details but omitting the surname to try to catch weird spellings but no luck.  Strange that you should mention 1861 missing persons as I have some  rellies missing off the 1861 in Croydon    I'm using Ancestry census resources, are you?  Maybe I/we should check another resource for the 1861 census

Hi Jane,

I do use ancestry & I have found it very good apart from the 1861. I have got lots of people I can't find, espcially in Surrey & London. I have checked for some on 'findmypast' & I can't see them there either!!
Other than going through every page of an area the families may be I don't know where else to look

I do have another lost family if you have a few spare minutes!

Horace Henry Grattan (Enoch's son) born 1847, Croydon. I found him on the 1891 index on 'findmypast' in St Saviours Southwark but there is no sign of him in 1891 on ancestry, very strange
