IoW/Portsmouth newspapers - where can I search them?

Hiya,

I'm looking into the death into one of my ancestors and feel sure that due to the circumstances of his death it would have been mentioned in the papers.

Does anyone know where I can go to search newspapers from that area for 1894? I've tried to IOW and Portsmouth records offices but had no response.
