Hi
You have posted two Cards, 1 is a medal index card to C.Hesmond Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery. His first unit number is 340 this could be a pre war Territorial Force number, the number 905521 is a 1917 new territorial unit number,This is for the Home Counties Division, 2nd Brigade Sussex RFA. 905001-910000.

The other Card is a Silver War Badge index card, for H.Hesmond. Pte, in the  Bedfordshire Regiment. He join up on the 9th Nov 1914, & was discharge on 18th Sept 1918, but below this is D/19/12/18, this could also be the dischargedate. He was discharge for being no longer fit for War service.

There could be a Medal index card for him at the 'NA' so you would need to have a look, the SWB Card will only list the last unit he was with, so H.Hesmond could have a MIC to an other unit.

Thank you the response and the greater detail.

Poor old Henry was about 45 in 1915 so he proably tried to do his bit but it was too much for him.

Re the Silver War Badge . . . is that what the W/932/2 refers to? . . . or is that the card by design and apperance makes it such one?

Thanks . . .

I followed the web address to the NA site and it looks like the one I already have, i.e., the Catalogue and Image Reference numbers match the document I purchased and downloaded.
WO 372/9 - 25339.

At the age Henry ws in 1915 (45 years old) he did not see any fighting. After the help I received I did some searching round and Henry was in a Battalion that provided men for work at UK Ports as required.

All part of the war effort but not the type you might get a medal for.

Have you had a look for there service records at the 'NA', also having a look at there medal/silver rolls, it may tell you what Battalions thay were in.
