Help Corbett Family
« on: Sunday 18 February 07 13:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello Listers...

Will SKS please look on the 1851 and 1861 census for Alexander John Corbett born circa 1832 in the Island of Ceylon

I believe Alex to be a soldier and perhaps his father is also... Alex was located on the 1871 census

One of the births of his children was registered in Elham 1867 so I am hoping he was in the Kent area before that year....

I would appreciate any help you can give with this....

Cant see him - altho there is a Military camp in Shorncliffe, parish of Cheriton, near Folkestone ... a Regiment of Irish Guards there in 1861 ... with a census District to themselves ..

Second Battalion 18 Royal Irish Regiment of Foot Camp Shorncliff

What was Alex' fathers name ? Did you get it from a Marriage Cert ?

Thank you for the response.... it is most welcome..

I was about to write a letter to the Plymouth register office for a copy of the marriage entry..... the marriage was registered in Plymouth so I hope that is the right place to send the request....

2 of the Alexander's children were baptized 75th Regiment, Stirling, Stirling, Scotland.... though they were not registered there......

As to the name of Alexander's father I do not as yet..

I would be grateful for any help or advice....

Hi Fingal

No promises of course but I would suggest starting a new topic on the armed forces board including all the information that you now have

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,300.0.html

...................... it may be easier to find something on the father being as he was a sgt major.
