Spooner, New York- 1910 Census please- Completed
« on: Wednesday 21 February 07 09:34 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone find this family in 1910 U.S. Census?

John Spooner born c1840 Ireland (date very vague), tinsmith, died bet.1900/1920.
Married 1869 Manhattan to Bridget (sometimes Anna) Fogerty, also born Ireland. Children:
1. Catherine "Kate" Spooner born 17 Feb.1870 N.Y.
2. Mary Spooner borrn 7 Apr.1872 N.Y.
3. John Joseph Spooner born 12 Oct.1873 Manhattan.
4. Thomas Spooner born 1877.
5. Lizzie? Spooner born Nov.1879 N.Y. Could this be Leo?
6. Leo Spooner born c1880.
1870- N.Y. (don't have exact census details).
1880- Buffalo, Erie, N.Y.
1900- Manhattan.
1920- Bridget (widow) listed twice: with son John Joseph Spooner & grand-daughter Mary Kraus.

Am hoping that 1910 census will narrow done date for John Spooner's death and give other details.

Thanks so much for such a quick search. I now know that John Spooner died between 1910/1920. I had hoped the number of children would clear up some confusion and it does. I was told there were 3 children- Catherine, John, Thomas. Then I found a birth for Mary, then Lizzie in 1880 census, and then Leo in 1900 census- which makes 6 children. I think that Mary died young and that 'Lizzie' should be 'Leo' and that he died bet.1910/1920.

I see that these Spooners came originally from Ireland, do you have any info on where in Ireland they came from and, if possible the names of their parents/siblings, etc

I have Spooners from Kilmeague, Co Kildare in my family tree and would be anxious to gather any info on them

Sorry but the only information I have is from when they were in New York and the only place of origin I know is 'Ireland.' Daughter Catherine married a Kelly in New York City and story was that Catherine's mother and mother-in-law knew each other in Ireland or were from the same area (or even county). Unfortunately Kelly family Bible that had details in it no longer exists.
