How odd, he's still married I see in 1901, but still no Annie, I found an Ann Appleby servant 21 b. Newcastle in 1861 census but no real way of knowing if that's her, wrong age again, and can't see the Robert I found either! Will have another look tomorrow

edit: ref for above is RG9/3821 fol.37 p.7 10 Oxford St, St. Andrew, Newcastle, in household of James Gilpin chemist, Ann Appleby 21 House servant b. Newcastle on Tyne

Found the Robert & family in 1841 but not later, so don't know if it helps at all:

1841 HO107/824/6 fol.6 p.24  Elswick St, Elswick, Newcastle on Tyne
Robert Appleby 38 Mason N
Elizabeth  "      38             Y
Henry       "       15            Y
Elenor      "        8             Y
Mary        "        6             Y
Ann          "       4              Y

Any names of witnesses at the marriage that might help?

Hi

I am confused about this ladies age.  Patrish says she was born in 1845.  If this is correct, then the 1841 entry below can't be for the right person.
I wonder what age was given on the marriage certificate?

Hi Jen,

Yes, Patrish gave 1845 I think from the 1871 census, but we all know how reliable (?) some documents can be, and this was the only Ann found with father Robert, just gave details in case they link later.  As she seems to have disappeared in later census with her husband alone and still supposedly married, any possible links could help.   :)

If 1845 is right year for her birth then here it is:

Jan/Feb/Mar quarter Ann Appleby Newcastle XXV 399
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi all, and thank you.

Marriage cert just says as usual full age, the witnesess were George and Anne Matrick or Mattick, I am not sure how this would help though as she was married in Surrey but you never know.

It possible the reason she  might have left Thomas, in 1891 he was living with his brother James who was later admitted to the Bantead Asylum.

I will get the birth looked up, I have a rellie in Durham.

Barbara I have taken note of the 41 and 51, just in case they are the right family.

Thanks Patrish.
