Do you have addresses in Cambridge, including the parish, in 1851 and 1871? The 1861 is not indexed at all and it's a bit of a tall order to plough through around 1500 census pages for the city of Cambridge.

Many thanks for that !
The only info from the 1851 I have is what I sent you .... the 1871 I have the full details .... would love any more info from the 1851 that you can provide ! :-*

Interesting the Charles PEACHEY ... must be an earlier marriage for Alice also or an illegitimate child !!!!  Any chance that you could check the 1851 for Alice and this Charles ? ;D
Many thanks
Cheers

1851
Old Red Lion Yard, Bridge St, Cambridge
George Hall head widower 38 hostler b Norfolk Croxton
Susan dau 14 house servant b St Clement Cambridge
Henry son 11 scholar b St Andrew the Less Cambridge
Edward son 6 scholar b St Andrew the Less Cambridge

This was taken from a transcription so I assume that the reference to Norfolk was on the original, but it looks to be an error for Cambs.

I'm looking for Alice in 1851!

Apologies for finishing previous message abruptly. Lost track of time and had to rush off for the school run!

In 1851:  HO107/1759/390A

The Union House, Chesterton
Alice Peachey Pp Unmarried 22 servant b Fen Ditton

I assume Pp is pauper as the Union House was the workhouse. She was probably kicked out by her family when her pregnancy was obvious and she went in the workhouse to have Charles, who presumably was born soon after the census was taken.

I have found her in the Cambs FHS 1841 census index -  http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html
and she's also in the baptism index on the same site under  Peachy in 1827 at Fen Ditton.

In 1841 she was a servant in Pembroke St Cambridge age 14 born in Cambs with Joseph Adcock 50 bottler not born in Cambs, Robert Finn 25 bookbinder, Mary Finn 20 and Mary Finn 8mths, all born in Cambs.

David

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Aren't you a gem !!

A little more "spice"  added to the tree .... appears great great grandma was a naughty girl !!!! ;D ... life must have been tough ... would not have liked to have been single and raising a child back then .... these days being single and giving birth at age 22 wouldn't even raise an eyebrow!!

I thank you very much for your help ..... and wish you well with your own research ! :-*

Cheers
