Anyone researching the surname Clinton or have any Clintons in their family tree?  Trying to find earlier ancestors (parents and siblings etc.) of Robert Clinton born c1796 in Ireland, married to Margaret (surname unknown).

Did your Robert and Margaret have a son, also Robert born 26 May 1826 at Ardnaglass, Co Antrim?  If so the mother's maiden name was McCluskey.

If you search on Robert Clinton, Ireland you will find the entry there.  Use the info with caution and always try to see the original source for yourself.

If she is the right wife of your Robert, search also on her name and there is an IGI birth record for a Margaret McCluskey born 1804 who later goes on to marry a Robert Clinton in 1825.

Hi 7/3,

Thanks very much for the info.  My Robert and Margaret did have a son called Robert but according to the census info he was born c1820 and was one of eleven children, of which two of them were born before him - Samuel Clinton c1811 and Jane Clinton c1816.  I guess they may have had three children out of wedlock but I don't know.  It's a shame I cannot obtain a marriage certificate for Robert and Margaret to know her surname for certain.  Unfortunately, the bmd records on Ancestry and Findmypast.com only start from 1835.

If you have any more ideas on how to find out for certain, please let me know.
