burial records
« on: Saturday 24 February 07 09:07 GMT (UK) »
I have booked a microfiche thingy next week to look up some burial records...i dont have a date for this persons death or burial, just a place and either 1960's or 70's.
I have never used one of these machines before...can anyone give me some tips on searching throught these records without a lot of info to go on!
thanks

Hi Debbie
you might have been by now,in case you haven't the microfiche thingy ;D is otherwise known as a fiche reader ;D
If you mean you only know the area of the burial you will have to look through all the cemeteries in the area. The librarian will help you.If you know the cemetery the deceased was buried,no problem you will be given the fiche for that cemetery.Because you don't know the year you will have to trawl through the 60/70's till you find what you want .Have you looked for a death first  on the G.R.O. that would save you a lot of time ;)
Tip. if a person was cremated you will not find a burial, unless the remains were scattered on the grave. For an entry to appear in the burial register of a cremated person.  Jo Blooggs died and so on (Remains scattered) family had to register that this had been done. A lot didn't though.

Great news,Have you thought about looking for an orbit in the deaths column of a weekly  newspaper .Or a report/article (not to be confused with the d/c) on her passing. They did wonderful write ups in those years and you can find lots of new information from them ,I have three.I found things i would never have known if it hadn't been for kind rootschatters. Good luck
