O'Loughlin's from Kilfenora & Ballyvaughn.
« on: Saturday 24 February 07 13:01 GMT (UK) »
Dear Members,

Please let me know if you are researching the name O'LOUGHLIN from Co Clare.

A local heritage centre wrote to me and said that the name O'Loughlin is purely a County Clare surname and that "KILFENORA is still the heart of the O'Loughlin country".

The records I need are pre 1830 and it appears that only 12 of the 47 parishes kept records.Sadly I may never be able to find what I am looking for.

Kind Regards

Steve

Hi Steve
I to have a great grandfather Austin O'Loughlin from Co.Clare. He was born about 1837 according to his marriage cert.
His father was Martin, mother unknown. He came to South Australia some time before 1858, there he married a Mary Ann Joyce and had a son John in 1859.
In 1861 they were in Victoria Aust. were they had another son Martin.
Sometime in the early 1860's they went to New Zealand.
I would love to find out more about Austin but I don't think I will.
Good luck with your research.

Sandra
