Hunt Death query

Hi all, I am trying to find the Death of my grandfathers ( Benjamin Hunt b 1903 Staffs) first wife. Her name was Maud Lilian Aldridge Hunt (m/s Clarke) I have found one possible death in the death index as follows-
Maud Lilian Hunt  2a 212 Q March 1943 Surrey Mid E.

Can anyone inform me if I am in the right fourm, and would I be able to ask the Registar Office for a free search to find if Maud's Husbands name was Benjamin Hunt, before I brought  the Certificate?
