marriage cert
« on: Sunday 25 February 07 20:17 GMT (UK) »
Would anyone know if you can get BMD details for Ireland.  I have found a marriage on familysearch which could be my ancestors, but can't seem to find a marriage cert for them.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Hi Angela

Presume you are talking about Civil registrations....?

The LDS have Irish BDM Indexes on film.
Can't remember the exact start years off hand.

Angela- not all information on LDS site is correct or taken from actual records, some are submitted details which might be incorrect. You didn't mention what date the marriage is supposed to be but civil registration in Ireland started 1845 (Protestant marriages) & 1864 (Catholic). Early information possibly comes from church records or family information. If you post the details someone might be able to help track down the source.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Angela

Just to clarify, I was referring to films that you order and view at a Family History Centre of the LDS, NOT records that are on the LDS website/IGI.

Bren.

Thanks,

The marriage is on the familysearch site.  Joseph McMULLEN and Mary FERIS
23 OCT 1845      Mullaghbrack, Armagh, Ireland

I was wanting to order the marriage cert.

Dear Angela,

Sometimes the marriage was not registered at all in Ireland. Please be prepared for this fact.

My suggestion would be that you contact this website:

http://www.familyulster.com/

and check on the 1845 marriage index to see if your couple did register their marriage with the register office or not.

If they are in the index, great! Then proceed to order the marriage entry from the Irish GRO as they will give you a photocopy of the entry at much cheaper rate than the Northern Irish GRO. Only 6 euros for a photocopy versus 10 euros for the official/certified copy.

In this method, you save a bit of money on not getting any charge for no found record from the Irish GRO. They would charge you 4 euros for this. By using the website I suggested, you would only spend one-pound (about 1.50 euros).

Here is the information on getting a record from the Irish GRO:

http://www.groireland.ie/

Alternatively, you can order the film at the LDS to view the marriage record you found on their website. You would have to find where's the nearest family centre.

I wish you the best of luck and every success with finding this marriage entry.

Kind regards,

Tees
