Please can somebody help me.looking for marriage of Joshua Powis [not on the IGI] IN 1862 set out below.From the Free BMD.

You don't need to know which was his wife, they will supply you with the certificate just with the man's name and reference.

I'll take a look in the 1871 census and see whether there's any way I can identify him with his wife.

Maybe Joshua was married twice before 1871

Joshua Powis married Selina Fletcher in 1862. Wigan, Register Office or Registrar Attended - which might mean that it took place in a Catholic Church.

Strange, I don't see a death for Selina, nor another marriage to Annie, but he's still with her in 1881, now living in Oldham with 17 year old daughter Amy ..... well I'm not so sure she'd be Annie's daughter .....

I don't see a birth registration for an Amy (nor for an Emma) but I have found this and wonder whether this is the answer

As Elizabeth's daughter and son are unmarried, could this be Joshua's child staying with her?  I wonder if it's possible that somebody said to the enumerator in 1881 "Emmy" and it was written down wrongly as "Amy"?

I think it would be best to wait before going any further until you get the marriage certificate and hopefully this will give his address to confirm that we are following the correct family.

Joshua was my gt gt grandfather and I am having the same problem , I am unable to find a second marriage after Selina but yet have found him living with annie. Would you keep me informed with what you find ?

I found this on the mormon website and have since discovered that joshua and selinas daughter, Elizabeth (as above) died aged 2yrs and is buried in wigan (lower ince) cemetery
