Thomas Miller marriage
« on: Monday 26 February 07 23:49 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone out there that can help me find the marriage of Thomas MILLER born 1804 in Acomb and Catherine ? born 1811 in Jarrow, Co. Durham.
They had 8 children. The first Isabella was born in Easdon in 1829 (according to Family History online) and the second in North Shields in 1830. I have not been able to find out the maiden name of Catherine. Although it is not in the transcript at Family History Online would it be on the actual parish register.

Thanks for any suggestions.
Lesley

Hi Lesley,
This looks like the family in 1851, living in Blue Quarries, Gateshead:
HO107/2402/420

Thomas Miller, head, 46, stonemason b Acomb
Catherine, wife, 40, b Jarrow
John, 16, labourer, b Gateshead Fell
Bartholomew J, 10, scholar, b Gateshead Fell
Thomas L, 8, scholar, b Gateshead Fell
Mary, 5, scholar, b Gateshead Fell
William L, 3, b Gateshead Fell

If you pick on the birth of one of the younger children - ie one after civil registration was instituted in 1837 - the birth certificate will at least tell you Catherine's maiden name.

As there is a Bartholomew Jefferson Miller born in Gateshead in 1840 (from FreeBMD), I would plump for that.

The reference you need to order it is September quarter 1840, Gateshead, Volume 24, Page 121

Regards
Rob

Thanks Rob, I realise  that's an option but I was hoping for a cheap way out !
The cost of all these certificates for side shoots really adds up.
Thanks for taking an interest

Okay, there's a marriage of  a Catharine Jefferson and a Thomas Miller on the IGI, 6 Oct 1839 at Heworth, Durham, if you want to take a punt.

Rob, thanks so much for that. it looks a really good possibility. I'll look into it.

I don't know why I hadn't looked at the IGI, I guess because it seems most places I research these days are not on there.

Thanks again
Lesley
