cremations were they recorded ?
« on: Tuesday 27 February 07 21:02 GMT (UK) »
I have been looking for my gtgtgt grandmothers buriel place now for 2yrs ,  looked every where and searched numerous graveyard's , i know where she died and have found her husband and other family member's (apart from her youngest son ) and it has just struck me is it a possibility she was cremated ? she died in 1868 had cremations started then ? and if so would there have been a record of this somewhere , i have also met the same brick wall finding my gtgt grandfather (her youngst son ) again found his wife but nothing on him , he died 1917 , i would value others thought's on this , is it possible that both were cremated ? but i find this odd seen as though all other family members were buried , any thought's or suggestions most welcome .

The first official cremation took place at Woking on the 26th March, 1885.

Dr. William Price (4 March 1800 – 23 January 1893)[1] of Pontypridd, South Wales, was a physician and a famous eccentric, best known for introducing cremation to the United Kingdom.

hi gah  :)

What area are we talking about here?  Have  you tried posting a query on the relevant county board on Rootschat, giving info about place and date of death and all that?

Hello gah
you don't give a location are you able to get to Leicester?I would suggest for the later death 1917.That you look for an orbit  in the deaths column on film of the weekly newspapers at any reference library in the area.Or an Report/article of the death. They can be a mine of information. Not sure about the availability of paper in those years though :-\
