More Help Required
« on: Thursday 01 March 07 20:25 GMT (UK) »
Thanks to everyone that helped us so much last time.  We have acted on all the advice we received but now have come up against another brick wall!!  As we are still beginners!!

Our problem, this time, is by purchasing a Marriage Certificate dated 1913 for William F. A. Kelly (aged 25) and Lucy Lount (my grand parents) this certificate also confirmed the name of my great grand father (i.e. Thomas Kelly - occupation Sea Captain).

I am lead to believe that Thomas Kelly married a lady with a maiden name of MacDonald or McDonald.  It is also believed that Thomas lived in the Isle of Man.

I have found a Census record showing a Thomas Kelly who is on a boat out at sea at the time the Census was taken.

Also found an Isabella Kelly (born in Scotland) residing in Isle of Man with a son called William.  But I cannot be certain if I am researching the correct Thomas Kelly or if Isabella is his wife's christian name.

Once again can you wonderful people help me as we have been working on this one element of my family tree for well over a week now and am beginning to dispair.

Can anyone please confirm that these two people are/were  married to each other, if so where were they married and also where we could look for a birth record for William Frances Albert Kelly as we cannot find any matches anywhere.  If we could find this we could send for a copy of the birth certificate and then his mothers names would be confirmed.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Always work back ....  now you have the age on marriage of William, can you find a Birth Index entry - linking him to the IOM ? (not sure if the GRO does IOM ? - ah I see you are at the same impasse  ::) )

Then again work back looking for a marriage of his father - see if the spouse fits what you found in the IOM ?

Not sure what dates you are looking at tho ?

I am working on the fact that William F. A. Kelly got married in 1913 and was 25 at the time, therefore, he was born around 1888.

I have looked for a birth record for William Frances Albert Kelly in the Isle of Man, Scotland and England and cannot get a match.

The Isabella I have found in the Isle of Man in the 1891 Census was shown to be 25, therefore, making her born around 1866.

This Isabella has a son called William (no middle initials) aged 2, (making him around the right age) she also has a daughter also called Isabella aged 10 months.

I have searched Scotland, England and the Isle of Man for a marriage between a Kelly and a MacDonald/McDonald around 1886, 1887, 1888 with no luck.

I must admit that I have not thought until now to try and find a birth record for an Isabella Kelly born in 1890 in the Isle of Man.  I think this will be my task for the morning.

Hope these dates helps and that the information shows that I have definitely been trying to improve my internet search skills before asking for help.
