Like you, I had surmised that Francis Grierson MIGHT be Thomas' father, and had pencilled him in on my family tree.   All things considered, and looking at all the evidence you have produced together with the information I have gleaned from marriage, death certificates and censuses, I agree that this is probably as far as I can go with this one.

p.s.   Do you have unlimited access to census forms, marriage and death certificates? and if so how did you acquire this?   I find it pretty expensive downloading these items from websites like Scotlands People and Ancestry.   Can you suggest any other sites (apart for IGI) which I would find useful in tracing my Scottish ancestry?
