Hi Borg Queen.

Can't help with the George in question, but along with a ditant relative of mine, we have quite a few Langridges in our trees. They all hail from Edward Langridge c1500, East Grinstead, Sussex. His site may be of use to you & a few others who are researching Sussex names;

http://www.arach.net.au/~kenhome/Report%20088,%20InternetTree/wc_idx/idx001.htm#LANGRIDGE

The above link is the Langridge names list, for the home page it's;

From checking Eliza Bailey and Eliza Tilley against the other possible grooms in 1851, I think George married Eliza Bailey. There is an Eliza Voller in 1851 aged 29 born Streatham, which ties in with an Eliza Tilley baptised at Streatham in 1821.

You can get a marriage certificate with only one name and the folio number. This will confirm George's father's name.

Possibly Eliza Bailey baptised 11 Sep 1825 at Croydon, parents George and Sarah. Siblings George, Rosetta, Joseph and William. Only put these in to check naming patterns that was mentioned by Sandie.

The James born Croydon Mar qtr 1848 definitely has the second name Samuel. The FreeBMD image is not very clear, but the Ancestry one is very clear.

The marriage to Eliza Bailey or Tilley is only a guess as far as I can see, based on FreeBMD information at about the right time.  Has the full index been checked?  There are other George Langridge marriages a bit earlier and some are to an Eliza so I would be happier to get a child's birth certificate to confirm her maiden name before speculating too much though it all sounds very convincing!   I have been caught on that one in the past so am very wary now.

Ian - thanks for checking James Samuel on Ancestry, never crossed my mind to double check on there, will do in future - lesson learned  ;)

I am also leaning towards Bailey and not Tiley but have no source to back it up

Andrea - I haven't got round to any certificates for this family yet but yes I agree that is the way to go so will get on to that. As for the full index checking that hasn't been done by me either. I have also been caught out in the past too

There are a couple of Fanny/Frances HISTEDs that could fit.
1. born 24 May 1797, bapt 13 Apr 1798, East Grinstead, parents James/Eliz
2. bapt 26 Oct 1803, East Grinstead, parents Henry /Mary

Think it may be the later as Fanny had sisters Philly and Lucy

Children of Samuel and Fanny from IGI, which match in with 1841 census except there was no William.

Henry bapt 9 Apr 1820 East Grinstead
George bapt 28 Apr 1822 East Grinstead
Samuel bapt 22 Aug 1824 East Grinstead
William bapt 21 May 1830 East Grinstead
Lucy bapt 14 Oct 1832 St James Croydon
James bapt 3 Jan 1837 St John the Baptist Croydon

Samuel who married Fanny was born in Croydon, according to 1851 census

Hi Ian
I agree with the children of Samuel and Fanny although I didn't have James. William could have died before 1841.
I have just been looking on IGI to find out which Fanny Histed I have.
1861 and 1871 have Fanny / Frances born East Gristead, I can't find them on the 1851  ???
