According to the 1901 census, Robert William Sedgwick was born rather earlier than you suggest:

RG13; Piece: 4833; Folio: 155; Page: 11
19 Front Clayton St, Bedlington
Robert Wm. Sedgwick - Head - 49 - Colliery Joiner - East Hartlepool, Durham
Margaret Jane Sedgwick - Wife - 34 - Radcliffe, Northumberland
Elizabeth Sedgwick - Dau - 11 - Radcliffe, Northumberland
Francis Robina Sedgwick - Dau - 9 - Radcliffe, Northumberland
William Atkinson Sedgwick - Son - 7 - Radcliffe, Northumberland

Although the birthplace and date vary a little, this is the only possibility I have found for Robert in 1891 -  was he a widower when he married Margaret?

RG12; Piece: 4200; Folio 61; Page 8
42 Stanton St, Westgate
Robert W Sedgwick - Head - 36 - Mining Engineer - Stockton, Durham
Elizabeth Sedgwick - Wife - 36 - Buchburn, Durham

Free BMD has a birth for George Alderson SEDGWICK - Sep Q 1850, Stockton reg. district (which covers Hartlepool).  I guessed he must be part of your family, and found him on the 1851 census with father William (which fits), next door to grandparents George and Mary Alderson:

HO107; Piece: 2384; Folio: 492; Page: 8
Henry St, Hartlepool
William Sedgwick - Head - 24 - Ship's Carpenter - Sunderland
Barbara Sedgwick - Wife - 23 - Hartlepool
Mary A Sedgwick - Dau - 3 - Hartlepool
George A Sedgwick -Son - 7 mo - Hartlepool

Barbara must have died before 1861, as William is listed with a different wife:

RG9; Piece: 3700; Folio: 89; Page: 20
Everard St, Hartlepool
William Sedgwick - Head - 35 - Joiner - Sunderland
Fanny Sedgwick - Wife - 22 - Bridlington, Yorks
George A Sedgwick - Son - 11 - Scholar - Hartlepool
John J Sedgwick - Son - 5 - Scholar - Hartlepool
Alice Sedgwick - Dau - 9 mo - Hartlepool

George St, Hartlepool
Mary McDougle - 30 - Durham
William Sedgwick -15 - Carpenter's Apprentice - Durham
George Alderson - 30 - Joiner - not Durham
James Nelson - 35 - Joiner - not Durham

So where does Barbara come from?   ???
