aah! That's the marriage I found and then found her in Cardiff in 1871 - she evidently married a toy-boy and removed a few years from her age when possible - 32 on the 1861 census and 30 when she remarried 3 years later! I'll go find the details again.  ;D

Wonder where the little Shellams are?  :-\

Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman

Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins

Newer saw the age difference in the second marriage until you pointed it out. She was a lady ahead of her time.  Children from her first marriage ; Amanda and George now both have  marriages.  I now know how George became a Boilermaker as the second husband had that as his occupation on the 1871.  We also do have at least one child from marriage number two with Joseph.  I now understand how people can become so fascinated and passionate about tracing down their history.  It is better then watching a good movie as you have no idea what twist  or turn you are taking until you find it.

Have been checking out the Shillam (Shellam) family in Woolaston for the descendant of another branch of the family - though sure they must be related.

However, the ones posted on this site seem to be descendants of Daniel and Martha whose son George Lodge Shillam was baptised 25 November 1798.
Not sure when Daniel died, but Martha was buried 29 December 1844.
(Incidentally in the 1828 Rector's Census George was able to read Bible and Testament!)

Have not come across George and Jane's son Alfred's baptism, but Amanda was 31 October 1830,  Mary Ann 2 September 1832 (buried 11 September 1833), George 10 January 1836 and Jane 5 November 1837.
Mother Jane may have been buried 29 December 1844, and George Lodge ended up at Chepstow Union Workhouse and was buried 24 March 1877 with age given as 84.

Still not sure where the Shillams came from before they moved to Woolaston.

Thank you!  That is the same family. Any idea what Martha's or Jane's maiden names were?

So far drawn a blank with Martha - all the 1841 census says is that she came from 'out of county'.
Will try and have another look for Jane.
The Shillums are a bit confusing at this time because there are up to three Daniels who suddenly appear in Woolaston at the end of the eighteenth century - and no hint where any of them came from!

I was having fun just with the last name spelling variations!  I have inherited boxes of family files from my Father-in-law who was the family genealogist.  Even on the handwritten trees the last name changes from Shellam to Shillam to Shellum.  Makes it even more challenging.

Just a quick note to say I think I may be on the trail of Martha!  I'd forgotten someone had found some other information for me - will be back once I've sorted it out!
