Help with location in 1830, please
« on: Saturday 03 March 07 14:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,
I wonder if SKS who is familiar with the history of the Carlisle area could help me with a location mentioned in the book of MI transcriptions for St Cuthbert's church. They refer to my ancestor Elizabeth Angus, who died in 1830, as being ''of New Village'' I asked the staff at the records office where I was at the time if they knew what this meant but no one present knew.
As I am now back home a long way from Cumbria, I wondered if a Rootschatter could come up with the goods, as they so often do
                             Thanking you kindly in advance,
                                                     Jane

Hello Jane

I do not know the area but I think from past research, 1841 Census,  New Village was near Brisco, just south of Carlisle.
Come on you locals correct me if I am wrong.

Regards Oly

Thanks Oly,
That would fit in with what I know about the rest of the family too, as they lived in the Blackwell/Woodbank/Brisco area. Brilliant!!!!
                           Best wishes
                                      Jane
