gaol at great stukely

My G. Uncle , Daniel Baker is down on the 1881 census as a gate keeper at  Great Stukely Gaol. Was this a prison? and if so at what age did the staff end their service? as tho;' he is living with wife Ann and niece Elizabeth in Goal Lane in 1881 I cannot find him there on the 1891 census he seems to have disappeared altogether. Don't know where to search for him.

OK I'm suggesting Daniel Baker died before 1891, as in 1891 his widow Ann Baker age 55 born Fakenham, is living in Heigham, Norfolk, with her unmarried sister Eliza Austin age 53 born Fakenham.

& I found his marriage index on FreeBMD in Dec quarter 1877 in Aylsham RD vol 4b page 199
 - also on page is Ann Austin

Betty, Thanks for the PM, glad it was useful,  Also found a BMD death index for a Daniel Baker in March quarter 1888 in Norwich RD vol 4b page 114, he was 51 (so born 1837).
