Ann Crossland 1851 basford union workhouse
« on: Saturday 03 March 07 23:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi All
I am seeking Ann Crossland/ Crosland born abt 1796 . I am told she spent some time in the Basford Union Workhouse and wonder if she was there in 1841 or 1851. I loose contact with her after 1817 when she becomes an unwed mother.
regards
Debbie

Hi Debbie

On the 1841 Ann is in the Basford Workhouse like you suspected,  aged 45 and born in Nottinghamshire.

Can't see her on the 1851 yet

Thanks Karenlee
I wonder if I should start looking for a burial between 1841 and 1851. Living in the workhouse can't have been for the fit and able. I do know that by this time her son had joined the army and left the country.
Thankyou
debbie

Hi :)

Notts FHS transcriptions has an Ann Crosland buried Basford St Leodegarius 20/09/1858 age 65, abode Carlton. Notes say, (abode=Basford Union Carlt)

There is still an Ann Crosland in the workhouse 1851
HO107 2127 147 4
occupation pauper framework knitter, birthplace Carlton. However her age is given as 88, which may simply be a mistake.
