groireland b/c query
« on: Sunday 04 March 07 01:22 GMT (UK) »
Just a quick question ....

I would like to apply for the birth certificate of an ancestor.

From his age at marriage I believe his birth was 1864. I have printed out a GRO application form where the date of birth has a "*" indicating that this should be filled in or "incomplete forms MAY be returned".

If I give just the birth year rather than full date, will they search the 1864 births for me, or just return my in-complete form?

Has anyone had any experience with this?

I already know both of his parents names & town of birth - all I don't know is the exact date of birth.

Thanks.
PS. I believe he was Catholic.

Hi Ruskie
When I sent for the only one I've ever found mention of in my Irish lot I just put "about 18..."
As long as you have the parents names etc they are very helpful.
Be prepared to wait a while though, they're not exactly speedy
Good luck, Sylvia
