Marina Sartin/Russell
« on: Sunday 04 March 07 09:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Can anyone help me please? I have Marina Sartin born circa 1834 Corscombe Dorset circa 1834 married to Charles Russell.
I would like to find out where they might be buried?? Marina died 1908/1910?
Maybe they were buried together,my guess would be Corscombe?

Any help appreciated.

Hi Langtry

You raise an interesting question - did people get transported back to a former parish for burial?

I say "transported" because your Marina is widowed in 1901 and no longer living in Corscombe.  This seems to be her death, which is not even in the same county:

Death

Marina RUSSELL

born c 1839

Sep q 1910

Wells, Somerset

It might be worth getting the cert to see whether she was living with family - maybe she would just be buried locally?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Looking at censuses, Marina is widowed in 1881, living in Upway, Dorset so Charles died before 1881.

Their youngest child, Walter born 1873-ish in Upway, suggests that Charles died around 1873 also in Upway.

There is a death registered in Weymouth reg district that might fit.

They had a huge family - I would be inclined to find out whether any of them were in Somerset in 1901, as that might provide additional clues.

Hi,
Thanks for that. Ther is however a problem I need to resolve.A lot of research has taken place in the past about Marina Russell nee Sartin. She was in the past a famous person,a writer and singer of folk music, and her music still lives on.I believe she died in 1908 but need to confirm that, the big BUT is that there were actually two Marina Russells (not related) and this is where confusion sets in.The Somerset,Wells lady I feel is the wrong one.
Marina Sartin was my great great grandmother born Upwey Dorset 1834.
Not sure where to go from here.

Langtry.

Is your Marina the daughter of James Sartin and Martha Cornick?

If so she links to my tree through her elder brother Henry who married for the second time to Hannah Mary Hodges a widow maiden name Masters. Hannah is my GG Grand aunt and also my 2nd cousin 4 times removed.
Love to swap info if it is the same family.

I think it might be a question, then, of obtaining a few certificates and eliminating the wrong ones!

Have you traced all the offspring of Marina and Charles forwards?

Maybe someone is local to the area & can check MIs for you?  Or the OPC

I did an internet search on Marina and she certainly sounds quite a woman!
