Alfred Smith/ Mary Hannah Oddy
« on: Thursday 25 November 04 11:39 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for further information re the above. They were my great grand parents and at one time ran the Beulah Hotel in Farnley Leeds. I am particularly interested in a possible link with an ancestor surnamed Waite.
Mary Hannah Oddy was the daughter of John Oddy and Eliza Carter I believe.

Hiya Roy,

Oddy is a very popular name in Leeds and the surrounding areas.  What time scale are we looking at?   Do you have any DOB's?

If you can give us as much info as possible i,m sure we'll come up with something.  :D

Try putting a message on RootsWeb's Bradford forum site (ENG-YKS-BRADFORD-L@rootsweb.com)  and  http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ENG-YKS-BRADFORD/. There is a regular contributor there, Derek Hindle, who posts from Tasmania but he's interested in the Hindle and Waites families so you may be able to help each other.
When I was nobbut a lad (in the 1950s & 60s) my grandmother had a very good friend who I knew only as Miss Oddy who lived in Baildon - she would have been 60+ at the time. She and my grandmother went on holidays together to London and to Llandudno - have you come across anybody who might fit that description ?

:(  FANTASTIC, Winston,  but I'm afraid it has to be wrong. I knew this lady in the 1950s and "your" lady would have been in her 90s by then. She was old but not that old !! She was called Miss Oddy so may not have been married or it might have been because she and my grandmother had both been teachers. My grandmother was born 1884 and I would expect "my" Miss Oddy to be roughly the same age.
Thanks, nonetheless, and if you can find "my" Miss Oddy I shall still be most grateful. She lived in quite a large house in Baildon and, if single, it was probably her parents house.
Regards,
Barry

Barry

How can you be certain that your Miss Oddy is the same lady in the original question?
