Hi there Jean

A little earlier, you wrote:

Looking on the 1891 census on line there were:
7 Beatrice Cockerill – but non of them were aged 9
204 Beatrice Cooper, 27 of which were born in Yorkshire – but only 2 of them were aged 9 years.

One is a boarder in Paddington London, but born in Huddersfield; the other is again born in Huddersfield, sister to Beatrice; but on the previous page is a house full of Coopers – I think this must be the one you want.

RG12/ 3572/ Folio 51/ Page 4/5 – Number 22, Euston Green Road, Huddersfield, Yorks.

COOPER Ben, Head, Widower, 55, Carpenter & Joiner, born Huddersfield
             Clara, Dau, Unm, 28, Huddersfield
Jim, Son, Un, 25, Plate Layer, Huddersfield
Florence, Dau, Unm, 21, Weaver, Huddersfield
Harry, Son, Unm, 18, Carpenter & Joiner, Huddersfield
Sarah A, Dau, Unm, 16, Weaver, Huddersfield
Julia, Dau, Unm, 14, Scholar, Huddersfield
John S, Son, Unm, 11, Scholar, Huddersfield.
Beatrice, Dau, Unm, 9, Scholar, born Huddersfield
Elice, Dau, Unm, 6, Scholar, Huddersfield.

Hope that was the information that you wanted

Thanks for looking Chris. Sadly this isn't Beatrice. Her mother Hannah Cooper was unmarried when Beatrice was born but later married a Mr Cockerill. I presumed she'd be listed under one of the names -  she's in the 1901 census as Beatrice Cockerill.
Many thanks anyway for taking the time to help me
Best wishes
Jean

Hang on in there Jean

Found this very interesting entry in Scarborough

RG12/ 3963/ Folio  / Page 50 - Joal Lodge, Scarborough

SIMPSON Hannah, Mother, Wid, 51, Matron, born South Normanton, Yorks
Jessie, Dau, Unm, 21, Assistant, born Scarborough, Yorks
COCKRILL Beatrice, 8, Patient, born Driffield, Yorkshire
BOWES Jane E, 9, Patient , born Pickering, Yorks

Both the girls have been transcribed as daughters of the above – but there is a ‘dash’ not a ‘ditto’ under relationship to head of house so am not sure about their relationship

Wow - that's her, I'm sure. You're a star Chris. Do you think Jaol Lodge may have been a nursing home of some kind? I put it in Google but no joy. Jean

Hi Jean

This is a very strange census entry - I have never come across a care home with just two young girls as patients - plus no other staff apart from the Matron and her daughter as an assistant - Very Weird.
Its almost like someone is trying to wind us up.

A street directory of the day may throw a bit more light on these unusual circumstances

In the meantime, I have attached a scan of the census entry - make up your own mind as to Beatrices relationship to the head (mother) of the house.

Hi Chris,
I see what you mean, very odd. No idea yet who Hannah Simpson is, but thanks very much for all your efforts. Much appreciated. Jean
