Where in Dolgellau?

I am hoping that one of you can assist.

I am seeking any details regarding "Smithfield House", Dolgellau, early C20th century. Can only find reference to such a house in the 71 census and nothing after, apart from the variants of Smithfield Lane, Upper and Road! 

A relative placed it as her "residence" on her marriage certificate in 1918 and the marriage was totally out of the area, in Cheshire.

Hi Jude I don't know if this could help you or not,

but you could look at the streets around Smithfield House on the 1871 census

and try and compare the street index on the 1901 index.

Could it be Springfield House, Edgeley, Stockport, Cheshire. If the marriage took place in Cheshire this could be where she lived or worked. Did she give her occupation on the marriage certificate?

Around 1891 Springfield House was a private girl's school.

Stockport Library has some information on Springfield House.

I have the MC in front of me -
Thomas Hugh Hughes 44 -- ville Street Edgeley Stockport
Annie Rowlands Smithfield House Dolgelley

The address in italics are the residence at marriage.  I think it reads Grenville Street as its in the right neighbourhood for an addy a year later on another cert - cunliffe street.

So it must be Smithfield House Dolgelley.........as I can read that straight off! lol
