Census lookup please - GRIFFITHS
« on: Wednesday 07 March 07 08:38 GMT (UK) »
Would anyone be kind enough to have a look for the following family in the 1841 and 1851 census please:

Owen Griffith/s
Margaret Griffith
plus two children born Holyhead (there may be more children)
Thomas Griffith chr 5 July 1835 (dob unknown)
John Griffith chr 21 Jan 1838 (dob unknown)

Fingers crossed! Thanks a lot.

I can only find two likely contenders for the sons Thomas and John in the 1851 census. Thomas, aged 16 and born Holyhead, is listed as living with Mary Griffiths, widow, 66, farming 28 acres at Penial fin-mer (looks like), Llanfwrog. Relationship to Mary is grandson. There are two other grandchildren living there (not John) and a married daughter called Margaret but too young (28) to be Thonas's mother.

In the same year a John G is shown as living at 58 Mill Street Holyhead with his grandmother Anne Williams, 77, Pauper. He is shown as, born Holyhead and a scholar pauper. Could these be the right ones?

Thanks very much for that westdav. Much appreciated.

Not sure as yet if they are the correct boys, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were related somehow. I have just sent off for the marriage cert of Thomas bc 1835, so in week or so I will know his father's name. (I'll bet it is Owen, because it seems this family can't be found together! ... perhaps parents are already dead?)

I'll let you know what the cert reveals.

Thanks again for your help.
