St Michaels Church West Felton
« on: Thursday 08 March 07 11:02 GMT (UK) »
I believe some of my ancestors may have been buried at St Michaels in West Felton in the early 1800s. Does anyone who is familiar with West Felton know whether there are any/many legible gravestones of that age still present in the churchyard? Better still, if anyone knows of any recorded MIs for the churchyard could they put me on to them? I did try the MI indexes from Shropshire FHS about 18 months ago but drew a blank at West Felton.
Thanks.
Dave

Hi Dave,

The NBI does have entries for St Michaels West Felton. I do not know the exact years covered but will have a look if you post the names you are looking for :)

Regards,

Frances :)

Hi Frances;
Thanks for your kind offer.
I am looking for people with the surname LEEK (sometimes spelt LEEKE or LEAKE) and also DODD or DOD. I believe also that this church is somehow related to St Chads, Haughton, so I don't know whether there might be entries there around the late 1700s and early 1800s.
I found a couple of LEEKs on the familyhistoryonline site but there may well be more. The problem is of course knowing whether they are related to my known ancestors, which is why I am hoping there are some MIs surviving which may give a clue!
I would be very grateful if you would look on the NBI for me.
Thanks again,
Dave

Hi Dave,

These are from St Michael West Felton. I have not found any Dod/Dodd's. I do not know if the entries are complete for this Church.

John Leek 2    21 February 1819
Samuel Leek 17m    17 March 18
Sarah Leek 50   15 July 1821
Thomas Leeke 6 18 September 1821
Mary Leek 5    24 January 1822
Margt Leek 4   19 March 1827

Looking at the ages I do not think they will be of much help to you :-\  It is so sad when so many children died at young ages.

Frances :)

Thanks very much for your efforts, Frances.
I know that the John Leek you found was a child of my great great great grandparents - very sad as you say.
