Searching Carrick- Where to start!!
« on: Friday 09 March 07 15:17 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me where im to start with the search for my Carrick ancestry?
I was born in 1982, illegitimate child of my mother and father, Edward Ian Carrick. All i know about the Carricks is that my father died in 1999 (i attended the funeral) and that my nana Carrick was called Ada. Ada's husband was known as 'Geordie' though i do not know his real name. I am not in touch with the Carricks and Ada Carrick died in Feb of this year.
Im so stuck with the lack of recent information that i dont think im ever going to anywhere with it!

Can anyone help??

Hi Emma,

Your father's death registration gives his birth date as 1 June 1961.

From there, you can view his birth registration
http://tinyurl.com/229dq4

which gives you his mother's maiden name as Ness.

Now either you search for a marriage* between a male Carrick and an Ada Ness, or you order the birth cert ...  :)

Thankyou!!!!!! That has been a great help! Loks as though im going to have to get the birth cert as there are no marriages between an Ada Ness and a Carrick that i can see!!

Thankyou for your help in getting me started!

To be honest i have no idea! I have spoken to my nana and my mother and all they can tell me is that my paternal grandfather was from Newcastle and was known as 'Geordie'! I think his name was John Carrick and was born around the 1920s, though im not sure.

Well we are different sides of the country then. You have a long task ahead of you - I wish you luck finding them.  :)

I most certainly do! I am determined though! I have my maternal back to the 1720 and my paternal line stops at my fathers birth in 1961!!! Its laughable really but there will a way!
