JERSEY help please.
« on: Friday 09 March 07 15:48 GMT (UK) »
Trying to race any family for a Robert & Charlotte House.

They were born in England. Married in England in 1848. I eventually found them in 1851 living in St Lawrence Jersey.
Robert is down as age 34
Charlotte 23
I am trying to find any children they may have had.
I can't find them in any further census's in the channel Islands or England so they may have moved on somewhere else or died. Can anyone suggest where to look for births, deaths or passengers leaving Jersey.

Hi Melia,
Have found Robert and Charlotte House in Jersey on the 1851 census.
I also found a Robert and Charlotte House on the England census with children Jane 2 months, Robert 2 and John 3.
they are living in Abbots Langley, Hemel Hempstead.
Robert and Charlotte "Howse" appear again on the 1871 England census with choldren
Matilda 13, Charles 11, James 7 and Charlotte 5.
On bothe the census returns Roberts occupation is Labourer in a paper mill.

Hi Michelle,
My Robert and Charlotte were born in Dorset. I don't suppose the Robert and Charlotte you found living Hemel Hempstead or in the 1871 census were born in Dorset were they??

Hi Melia -

I have found possible? children in the Registrar's index -
St Lawrence births, between 20.9.1850 - 20.6.1868
HOWES
George John,  page 17
William George,  page 31

If you think these are likely, you can check a copy of the birth certificates from -
The Superintendent Registrar
10 Royal Square
St Helier

Quote the details as given in bold above.
Certificates cost £10 each, plus P&P (UK 50p; Europe £1.00 and elsewhere £2.00)
