Hello anna

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

My first ideas would be that he was elsewhere in Scotland because of his job on the railways or that he was fighting in the Boer War.

Have you tried a broad search for him with wildcards/soundex for his surname?

I'll have a quick look now just in case.

Regards

Added - I can't see him immediately either - or in England.

I've just been checking the WW1 Campaign Medals and there looks as if there are two possibilities for him click here

Hi again anna

This is very strange, I don't see a death for him 1891-1956 in Scotland or a marriage 1891-1931.

Do you know anything about him after 1891 at all?

Hello Anna

The only other thing that I can think of is a change of name or Australia/New Zealand. I've checked passenge lists and there is an Alex Sinclair leaving London for Australia in 1900. Apart from that there are seven going to USA (1892 - 1899) and one to France.

Were either of the two WW1 records of any use at all. Not sure if all the Boer War records are available, so he could have been there.

If he was in a hospital, prison or other institution , he would be on the Census  :(

Where there any other family names that he might have been given?
