Thank you both for your replies.

Would you know why someone born in Lancashire would end up in a Hereford Regiment?

recruitment wasn't just local, recruiting parties went all over to fill their quotas, but especially after 1916, men were enlisted/conscripted in the the army and then drafts were sent to a regiment, men who had been sick or wounded could find themselves being sent where they were needed and not to their original regiment or battalion

Thank you for that information.

As you can tell I am really ignorant about anything to do with the regiments so any snippet I can pick up on my relatives is very useful.
