Thanks Emsworthy,The problem we have is....
We have a Family in the workhouse which we have found on the census 1841, 4 daughters and 1 son, the second son joined up in the army and got married in Kent, on his marriage cert it just have 2 witness,s and NO fathers name, we also know now that the mother of the children in the workhouse died in May 1839 age 44yrs in the St Augustines Parish of Norwich, but are unable to find the Father, who, age is unknown but i maybe around 44yrs too, what we really need is a Edward Holmes  a widow on the 1841 census, what we ask is was he already dead?  is he on the 1841 Census in St Augustines or elsewhere, can anybody throw any light on this one,its been going on for a few years now.

          Many Thanks Gordon
