previous marriage?

Daniel Toulan, born 1776 in Ireland married Jean Angus born 1792 in Hutton and Corrie, On 7th January 1813 in Applegarth.
In view of the age difference, it is possible that Daniel was married before. Is there any way I can find out please?

Hi Chris

That is the only marriage that is showing up between 1790 and 1813. However, the OPRs only include banns/marriages conducted by the Established Church. This means that other religious ceremonies and common law marriages are not readily available. Even the OPRs have missing sections (I have some missing mariages because of this).

Possible ways of finding out -

Did he marry in Ireland?

Did he live after Jan 1855? A death certificate might (but not always) list his first wife.

Is he on the 1841 or later censuses - possibly with children?  Children born before 1813 might be there.

Kirk Sessions Minutes for the parish/parishes he lived in might have some reference but don't expect much. These are probably at the National Archives in Edinburgh

Are there any MI listings that you could search? If he didn't have a headstone, maybe there are lair books available.

It's tricky to solve these problems and these are just a few ideas.

Hi Amanda. Oh dear I'm having a very senior moment - I can't remember having anything on the Toolans in February and I have nothing in my good old fashioned file.
I vaguely remember havinf an attachment which I couldn't open and I e-mailed back but heard no more but I've no idea if this was you.
Did I open my tree for you on Genesrenited or Ancestry.Com?
