Mary Cook birth
« on: Sunday 11 March 07 21:39 GMT (UK) »
Looking for birth information on Mary Cook, born May, 1891 in Birkenhead. Mary was illigitimate, so probably listed under mother's name: Susan McGinley.  Father: Robert Cook.  What information is needed for a copy of a birth certificate?  Thanks!
Wales....Thomas, Williams

Scotland.....Cook, McGinlay

England....Cook, Agger

Hi

It looks as if your Mary Mcginley was born in 1880 not 1891.

This is the 1881 census for Birkenhead

RG11-3574-F71-Page 8  37 Leicester Street Birkenhead

Susan Mcginley head unmarr 25 born Glasgow
Ann daug 5 Glasgow
Susan daug 3 Glasgow
Robert son 1 Glasgow
Mary daug 4 months Birkenhead
Robert Cooke boarder unmarr 31 slater and plasterer London.

The details you need for a birth certificate from the GRO are
Mary Mcginley born 4th quarter 1880 Birkenhead volume 8a page 454

You could also apply to the Register Office in Birkenhead.
Go to the http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/ search for Mary's birth and click on the ref number in the right hand column, this will bring up an application form with all the nessasary details preprinted. I would recommend this way.

good luck

Peter....thank you so very much!  I knew my great aunt, Mary was born around 1881, and sent to Canada in 1891....but much in between was missing.  I appreciate not only the birth information, but this is the first clue I've had re Robert Cooke.

All four children carried the Cook name (minus the "e")   to Canada, but without other information, it's a hard name to trace.  You've provided some information as to age and occupation....hopefully I'll find more!

I've bumped many walls, so appreciate your help, greatly!    Millie

Hi Millie

           No problem  :) you're welcome.

It was your initial request where you say Mary was born May 1891 that threw me a bit.
