PR's Denbigh?
« on: Monday 12 March 07 04:01 GMT (UK) »
Is there such a thing as PR's for Denbigh?

If they exist, does anyone have access to them? If so, would you be kind enough to look up a marriage for me please?

Edward Ingham = Mary Hughes
17 April 1829 Denbigh
(Information from the IGI)

Just wondering if the PR reveals any interesting snippets of information.

I have details of their children from the IGI and census. I'm really hoping to progress further back.

Many thanks.

One clue perhaps is that the 1841 Census for Denbigh shows that Edward was not born in Denbighshire.

Hi Ruskie

The PRs for Denbigh are held at various sources:

Denbighshire Records Office, Ruthin
The National Library of Wales

And the LDS would have the films of the Bishops Transcripts

Clwyd Family History Society have produced transcripts of these PRs which can be purchased:

http://www.clwydfhs.org.uk/registers/index.html#booklets

These are also available to view at the Clwyd FHS Resource Centre in Cefn Mawr

I'm a bit far from there or I would have a look for you.

Regards

The transcribed Parish Registers(Marriages) for Denbigh by Clwyd FHS unfortunately only go up to 1812.

Thinking again, there is one other resource available at Clwyd FHR Resource Centre, and that is what is known as the Hayes Marriage Index.Whether the Father's name will be included with the Entry for the Marriage,is not known, but dependant on the Gas Engineers visit to my home this week,I will check the entry for you.

Thanks William - yes I know - Ed was born in Portsmouth.

Mary was from Denbigh. They married there and some of their children were born in Denbigh.

Gadget - thanks for the links.  I'm in Australia so the LDS might be my best bet.

I just thought I'd ask here first in case someone had the appropriate resources to hand.

Thanks to you both.

PS. Just read your last post William - I would really appreciate it if you could check Hayes Marriage Index. It's a very kind offer - thank you.

So reading from your last message Ruskie,it appears that it is the Mary Hughes that you require info for?

I notice that on the 1851, Mary is aged 43 (therefore born 1808-09) and born Denbigh. The IGI has the baptism of a Mary Hughes, 5 Nov 1809, Denbigh, parents John Hughes and Elizabeth Davies. This is a patron submission but worth checking up in the Denbigh Parish Transcripts, particularly as her eldest daughter is named Elizabeth.

Also worth checking the available transcripts for any other Mary Hughes born/baptised circa 1808-09.

Of course it would be nice to find father's names for both Edward and Mary. I have no clue what, if anything, the Welsh PR's may reveal. I would be very happy with any information at all that you may be able to find.

I'm fairly new to family history but haven't yet seen a pre 1837 PR with the parents named. Witnesses have been helpful for me in a couple of cases.

I think that Edward and his parents may have moved to Denbigh when Edward was a child and Edward has siblings who were born in Denbigh ... I have no proof of this yet though.

Thanks for your interest.
