Help with Burials after 1854 in Blackwell/Woodbank/Upperby area
« on: Tuesday 13 March 07 14:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me where people from the above area would have been buried after St Cuthbert's Churchyard in Carlisle closed for burial in 1854? I am looking for some of my ancestors who died shortly after that time.
                            Crossing my fingers
                                              Jane (newly seniored)
PS Other than Carlisle Cemetery, there are none there...

The mid 1850s seems to have been the time when Municipal Cemeteries opened ... I know this was true in Whitehaven, Wigton and Lincoln; perhaps it was also the case in Carlisle.

Thanks, Anna. That is Upperby Cemetery, I presume?
Were there burials in Upperby churchyard, at all?

I would think the churchyard was to the right of the church in this picture-
