HARTSHORN family
« on: Wednesday 14 March 07 11:33 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
In 1871 Joseph Hartshorn was a 19 year old coal miner living at Longdon Common. By 1881, he was married to Eliza Cooper who was aged 27 and his two children Sarah, 2 and William 10months and also his widdowed mother Mary. By 1891 his family had increased to include Sarah Ann, William Edward, Ruben, Mary Elizabeth, Harry and Martha.
What I am trying to find out is whether Joseph and Eliza had a baby girl called Eliza before they were married in about 1970?????? Does anyone have anecdotal evidence of such a thing?  ??? Any clues would be most welcome. Thank you,
David

Hello Mike,
Thanks for your info. The Eliza you mention had John and Eliza Cooper as parents. In 1871 Joseph Hartshorn was living in Longden Common and Eliza Cooper was living with the Rawlings family as an unmarried servant, next door to Joseph's mother and brother. They married in 1878.
I always hoped that Eliza (Hartshorn or Cooper) had been christened or at least registered. It really needs someone who knows the Hartshorn family details for Shropshire to check whether there was a child who "disappeared" not long after birth but who reappeared later in other parts of England?
