Trying to find birth
« on: Thursday 15 March 07 14:50 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the parents of Mary Stoker b1823 in Northumberland (she is down in one census as N.Shields). She married Wilkinson Rowell in Durham in 1848 from which I found her father is Robert but I cannot find her birth and therefore her parents.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks

Hi Joanna,

There is this entry on the IGI

Mary Davison Stoker ch. 22.8.1824 Christ Church, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.

Father ROBERT, Mother HANNAH   (Davison I would assume)

There is also this one

Mary Stoker ch.12.1.1825 Newcastle upon Tyne, Mother Isabella (illegitimate I would think)

Hope this is of some help.

The church for Mary Davison Stoker is Tynemouth Christ Church.  This is the parish church for North Shields.

Robert Stoker married Hannah Davison in Christ Church 13 Feb 1823.

Thanks to both of you.  Figure that could be my Mary, especially as they seem to have named their children after their parents and their last daughter was called Hannah!

Hi 2zpool & patrish

Is there any chance either of you would be able to find out anything about Robert Stoker and Hannah Davison, perhaps their birthdates.  I had a lookup for 1841 but nobody can find them or even Mary, so perhaps they died before then and she is elsewhere.

Thanks

Hi Joanna,

On the IGI there is this birth recorded

Robert Stoker, born 28.9.1802 baptised 5.12.1802 All Saint Newcastle
Father George    Mother Mary Brown.

There are lots of Davison and Davidson but this one is an exact match, but you have to be very careful with the IGI as there are many errors so I would be cautious without further evidence.

Hannah Davison born 6.5.1802 baptised 25.7.1802 Horton by Blyth, Northumberland.
Father James mother Hannah Wheatley

What was the occupation of Mary's father on her marriage certificate?

Thanks Patrish

Afraid I don't know what Robert's occupation was. I got her marriage details off Durham Records online and they didn't give an occupation.

I took a look at the 41 and there was one family living in Easington that looked promising, the head is a Robert 44 a Blacksmith  no wife but children, George 15, Mary 13, Frances 7 and Josephh 4  but Mary should be about 17 not 13 so I am not at all sure, thats why I asked for his occupation.

If the above IGI entry for Robert Stoker is a possibility here is what the entry says:

Robert Stoker born 28 Sept 1802, baptised 5 Dec 1802 3rd son of George Stoker, Maltman, native of Woodhorn by his wife Mary daughter of Michael Brown, labourer, of Stamfordham Northumberland

And in Horton St. Mary:
Hannah Davison born 6 May 1802 batpised 25 July 1802 1st daughter of James Davison, colliery agent, native of Stamfordham by his wife Hannah Wheatley native of Blyth
