Emigration 1921
« on: Friday 16 March 07 20:45 GMT (UK) »
I have grandparents entry details for 1921 but am wondering why they left England on separate ships on the same day. G.father states he is single and going to stay with his cousin, his wife states she is going to join her husband at another address (both Niagara Falls) her age is given as 21 (about 8 years younger than she really is). I definitely have the right records as all details (next of kin and addresses etc) are all correct with family certs. etc I have. Were there problems with married couples emigrating at that time? Any suggestions? Anne

Hello Anne

Could your grandmother's marriage be a second marriage for her to your grandfather and maybe this event occurs before their marriage where she is joining an earlier husband?

Hi Linda thanks for reply, I have marriage cert. for this couple, (married in England) and I know it is first marriage for both. They later arrived in New York and had a son born there in 1926. Anne

Were your grandparents married shortly before they left? The reason I am asking, is it possible that your grandfather had booked his passage before he and your grandmother were married?
