2 + 2 are probably making 5...but here goes!

There is a marriage in Paisley showing for a Margaret Gillon:

MARGT. GILLAN     Marriages: Spouse: JAMES MCLAUCHLAN
Marriage: 12 OCT 1866 High Church, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland

These are the children showing for them on IGI:

1. CHARLES MCLACHLAN Birth: 25 DEC 1867 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
2. PATRICK MCLACHLAN  Birth: 11 AUG 1871 High-Low-Middle Churches, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland
3. MARGARET MCLACHLAN Birth: 27 JAN 1870 High Church, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland
4. ALEXANDER MCLAUCHLAN Birth: 20 OCT 1873 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland

This looks like the family in Paisley in 1871...with an older James McLauchlan showing as a son, everyone showing as born in Paisley:

James McLauchlan 29, Maker Up Of Gran
Margaret McLauchlan    21
James McLauchlan    8
Charles McLauchlan    3
Margaret Dykes    67
Henrietta McCall    51

Address: 6 New Street, Paisley

The ages seem out, but there's enough ticks in the box to check this one out further.

Regards.

Monica

I think I've just popped my own balloon!

There's an IGI birth in Paisley of a James to parents James McLaughlan and Margaret Walker in 1862. There is also a death of a Margaret Mclaughlan/Walker in Paisley in 1865...pity  :'(

Fun v. frustrating hobby this!

I am sure I saw a James McLaughlan Wilson recently (printer was out of ink so I thought I would come back to that one) and do you think I can find it again?   You are right - it is evasive!!!  Strange that you should come up with that name though.
This James Dyer is interesting though!   My grandfather's oldest child (Helen) has Reid as her middle name  -  and it is James Dyer's wife's maiden name!!!  Could be onto something here - I will let you know how I get on.
thanks again

Hazelnuts

'Dyer' was James McLaughlan's occupation in the 1881 Census, not surname. I thought it interesting given it's the same occuation James Wilson gave for his father in his MC...but that was before I found the Margaret Walker ref.!
