I've just reread what you have on John and Agnes. Realised that you may not have seen the OPR entry for their marriage:

AGNES WILLIAMSON  Marriages: Spouse:  JOHN STEVENSON
Marriage:  08 MAY 1824  Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland

John Stevenson must have died between 1841-49. Did Agnes's DC show her as remarried:

AGNES WILLIAMSON  Marriages: Spouse: PETER WESTWATER
Marriage:  JUL 1849  New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland

And Agnes in 1851 with a few of her Stevenson sons:

Peter Weatherton 55, collier, b. Westfield, Clackmannanshire
Agnes Wilson    52, b. Westfield, Clackmannanshire
Agnes Westwater 8, b. New Monkland
Alexander Stevenson    16, b. Saint Ninians, Stirlingshire
John Stevenson    18, b. Saint Ninians, Stirlingshire
Robert Stevenson 9, b. Saint Ninians, Stirlingshire

Address: Rawyards Cooks Back Land No 2, New Monkland, Lanarkshire

From Agnes's DC in 1858, what was the occupation of husband John Stevenson?

Regards.

Monica

Added:

This looks like John and Agnes with family in 1841, everyone showing as born in the county apart from Agnes:

John 40, coal miner
Agnes 40
James 15, coal miner
Charles 13, coal miner
John 8
Alexander 6
Thomas 4
Robert 3 mnths
Margaret Stievenson, 40

Address: West Plenmare, St Ninians

Hi,

Agnes was widowed at the time of her death in 25/Oct/1858,  - she was registered (parish of Slamanan, Stirlingshire) in her maiden name of Williamson and noted as a widow, aged 58 . No indication of husband's name - her parents are given as Charles Williamson, collier, and Elizabeth Williamson (M.S. Beveridge); registered by son Thomas Stevenson.

 ;)

Hi Stoney

There was a period in in the late 1850s when the name of someone's spouse wasn't always shown on their DC which can be a pain when you are looking to verify spouse(s) names. I would think that Agnes looks to have remarried. You have the likely OPR entry and the 1851 census with her children showing.

You seem to have another Beveridge line in your family, apart from Violet's husband  :)

Still cannot see the link to the Caldwell name though....

Regards.

Monica - thanks for all your hard work!

I'm not sure about Agnes re-marrying - surely her husband would have registered her death rather than her son (unless hubby pre-deceased her, of course!) - but who knows!

I'll have another good lookthrough everything you've sent me, when my brain is more on an even keel..... :P

Thanks again!

I think what we have found does indicate a second marriage for Agnes, and the clincher.....a death entry for Peter in Slamannan, hopefully it should show Agnes as his widow (or it might just be one of those that show 'married' like Agnes's with no spouse name):

1856   WESTWATER   PETER   RUSSELL       M   U   SLAMANNAN   /STIRLING   489/00 0035

Monica - well, well, I stand corrected!   ;)

Typical - I've run out of credits on Scotland's People - I shall have to put some on later and have a look. Though probably, as you suggest, there may be no more information but I would suspect his spouse would be listed, don't you? It will be interesting to see who registered his death!

Thanks again!  ;D
