Tracing LYNCH, and ASTLEFORD - Modified
« on: Tuesday 20 March 07 15:00 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out anything at all about Ellen (Eleanor) LYNCH born c1834 County Clare and her husband John ASTLEFORD, Ploughman born c1832 who emigrated to South Australia on the Marion in 1854 from County Carlow - according to the Passenger List.   I know this is not much to go on, except that ASTLEFORD is not a common name.

Anything at all you can provide would be much appreciated.
Jeenie.   :)

Thanks to Mary, below, I am now in receipt of the 28Mar1854 Marriage Certificate of Ellen LYNCH, Dairy Maid, of Banigagole [actually BANNAGAGOLE in the Parish of Old Leighlin County of Carlow, father Thomas, to John ASTLEFORD, Labourer, also of Bannagagole, whose father was also John.  There is reference in the Internet to LYNCHs in the area going back to at least 1831, and just possibly someone might be able to help - even if Ellen, and/or John, were not necessarily born there.   :D

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Mary.  You haven't any idea how long I have been searching for anything at all about these, either of them, this couple !  :) :D :) ;D :) :D :)   I had given up all hope of ever finding anything !!!   :) :D ;D

This posting was the last throw of the die, so to speak.  And I thought it would not get anywhere either, the query being so broad, and the information so scetchy !

But I am so glad you were able to find something !  ;D  And, the Names of the Fathers as well !

Thank you again,
Jeenie.    :) :) :)

There was one other little scrap of information I didn't include before.  It is very vague, and this published source can be notoriously unreliable, but as well as stating the Ellen was born in County Clare, it also states that John ASTLEFORD was born in "Northern Ireland", remembering it is circa 1835 and 1832 respectively that we are talking about.

Hello, Mary - the Marriage record of John ASTLEFORD and Ellen LYNCH didn't happen to record where in County Carlow the marriage occurred, did it ?  ???  Or does it mean perhaps that the marriage took place in the Town of Carlow ?
(You see I am pretty vague on such things.)  :-[

Thank you again,
Jeenie.   :)
