Alfred Worgan- inquest mystery- any one help?
« on: Wednesday 21 March 07 16:15 GMT (UK) »
i have a death cert for alfred worgan died 19/4 1916 kingston farm, whitebrook, trelleck, Monmouth
aged 76 farmer and timber haulier.
syncope following pneumonia.

it states there was an inquest held 22/4 1916.

The Monmouthshire Beacon newspaper has been checked for any reference to this but none found.

How can I confirm that this is def my man?
the age and job matches but  last known address in 1901 was  Little Hoggins, St Briavels.
my alfred's "wife" (no marr found ) was Ann.  the death cert does not name her just that a cert was recieved from the coroner.

I need to find reference  to the inquest to try to see if family members are mentioned.  Suggerstions? I do not live anywhere near the area

any help appreciated.

Hi Lou - I think your Alfred is married to Eliza in the 1871 census, and living in St Briavels with children Henry S age 4, and Ellen L age 1.

Eliza is born Allensmore Hereforshire like Annie, the same person, the ages are about right.

No! Eliza died?  Annie is Alfred's sister in law in 1881, living in Lydney Lane, which is Hewelsfield, where there are other Worgans.   So he may not have married Annie.

Whitebrook down in the valley from St Briavels, 5 miles over Bigswere bridge

yes thats right ann was the sister in law  in 1881 census.

thankyou for letting me know where whitebrook was.  it seems likely that this is my alfred in the death cert despite having no family member named on the cert.  i had thought it was further from st briavels/hewelsfield.

this site never fails to amaze me with the speed of replies to seemingly vague enquiries!    thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

think the way to go with this is to find a marriage for one of the kids and see what turns up there.  i really dont think alfred married ann even though 1891 says she is his wife.   def same ann as born allensmore and right age.

bye for now

This site may help with Worgans in the Forest of Dean.  Much of West Dean  BMD's are registered in Monmouth.
