Hi jenn (and countryozy),

I hope no-one thought I was being critical with mention of the duplication.

I'm sure it was unintentional on the part of countryozy.

But I think it is always useful and helpful to mention anything which will stop us all looking up info which has already been provided, and to point out similar threads on RC - and also threads elsewhere.

But what a puzzling story this is!  Surely we are talking about the same William Dav(e)y TRAVERS/TRAVIS and Alice!  Were they married in England and then again in Hobart!!  Who knows!  Was William a convict or not?  Very strange!

I'm in the middle of an investigation which might(!) give my children their very first convict ancestor (also tracing back to Tasmania/VDL ca 1842).  But the changes of names, the lies, the stories, etc make it almost impossible to determine.

Incidentally, countryozy, where did you get the idea of a connexion of William with a Women's Refuge?

Best regards,

JAP

Boy   I    feel a bit embarrassed    seem  to have caused a  LOT    OF
trouble and  searching    you can see am new to this investigation bit

a Big  sorry for the trouble i have put folks  through

I was informed by  relation  first  he was  some sort of manager
someone incharge at a Womens Prison    could not find  any connection
then   advised  no  it was a Womens Refuge  or something like that
or it may have been a  place  (setup)  to only look after  "single" women
or desserted females    unfortunately the rel  advised has passed on
but am  trying to see if can locate  papers  etc      no luck at present

i realise stories can develop as they go along     the gossip  line  not
what it was at the end  as at the beginning

Lavina S TRAVERS    BORN  1841 van diemens land
died  1902  Kogarah      9648/1902    bdm.nsw.gov.au
got William and Alice name on  death notice record

will  later sit down and really study   your helpful information     thanks

just wonder suppose I will   do a search for   ALICE SMYTHE
ALICE SMITH       ALICE WOOLCOCK    as well   see if can tie up such

you are very patient with my request ....
