IGI stands for International Genealogic Index which is available to search free at the LDS site www.familysearch.org

It is particularly good on post official registration records in Scotland for 1855-75. Before this date it includes Old Parish Register entries predominantly from the Established Church of Scotland ((Presbyterian). Whilst some entries are actual extract from official sources, other are submitted entries by members (such as the ones you have found for Catherine Docherty's birth). Sumbmitted entries, whilst useful reference, always need to be verified (they can be plain wrong  ::))

It also only (very few exceptions) includes births and marriages. For post 1855 deaths, you of course have Scotlands People.
